this week's bible highlights, as well as last week indicated that the promise land wasn't so fortunate as thought.

this week it mentions premature balding.

As you mention leprosy it reminds me of something I've been thinking about recently.

God told the nation of Israel that they are his special property and he would basically make them an impressive remarkable nation compared with the surrounding nations. Recall how God gave special wisdom to two craftsmen so that they can build the ark of the covenant and all the special tabernacle utensils and so on? Well I got to thinking: why didn't God also give special scientific knowledge to chosen men in the nation of Israel?

Think about it: In the space of a few years ancient Israel could have had remarkable technological advancements (far beyond what we know today) due to special knowledge given them by God. They could have had a remarkable medical system with a medical cure for leprosy! Instead, God keeps them in backward scientific ignorance tells them to shun lepers as outcasts!

And just think: the remarkable out-of-this world technological superiority of the nation of Israel would have served as convincing proof of them having a super-intelligent being backing them. Relics of their technological superiority would still be around today to provide a measure of evidence of divine backing . . . but no. God keeps them in basically the same level of technological ignorance as everyone else . . .

Question for Atheists.. Did you gain a Greater Sense of Morality and Happiness?

i've heard some view points that state, atheists are generally more moral & caring for fellow humans, than are theists.. i'd like to hear some personal stories of life changes and quality of life after you became atheist.

i have a simple theory that may explain this.. i'll explain my theory if you'd like, after a few responses, as i really am interested in the personal changes that you experienced.. thank you very much, and i look forward to your stories..

For me personally, yes. There is a quote by a famous atheist that goes something like this:

"Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without religion you will find good people doing good things and bad people doing bad things. But to get good people to do bad things - that takes religion."

Religion corrupts our natural humane conscience through instilling fear of, and unquestioning obedience and loyalty to, an imaginary being. People are brainwashed into thinking that this being is pure and perfectly righteous and everything he says must be correct and obeyed without doubt or objection. When they get to this mental state, they are willing to carry out just about any command that purports to come from this being - even commands that their conscience would otherwise tell them is wrong and which do not seem logical or strategic from a human standpoint. So the will of God overrides their humanity and they justify evil conduct by saying things like:

"Our human conscience is imperfect, that's why it seems cruel to us but God knows best. If he says to do it, then we must obey." Or "It seems harsh from our limited human standpoint, but we don't have all the facts. Jehovah has all the facts and always knows what's best. Trust in Jehovah and obey. Do not rely on your imperfect heart."

There is also the promise of an eternal reward for obeying the imaginary being. This factor tends to foster selfishness that is so strong that people are willing to harm others in the course of obeying god so that they can get their eternal reward. Thus they are willing to shun family members who leave the religion; they are willing to let their child die without a blood transfusion, etc. Think: who are JWs looking out for when they deny their child a life saving blood transfusion knowing the child will die? They are not looking out for the child because the child would not be held accountable for what was done to him if he's given a transfusion. They are really looking out for themselves! They believe that they [the parent] will lose out on paradise if they consent to their child receiving a transfusion. So they are actually sacrficing their own child to safeguard their personal salvation. The height of selfishness!!

Relgion teaches some good morals but then it mixes in some harsh ugly stuff like bigotry, selfishness, discrimination, misogyny, mind-closing, shunning, hubris, deceitful false teachings, etc, all of which make religious people less moral than a kind and moral atheist. Religion corrupts the conscience and destroys critical thinking skills.

"3. That we acknowledge as the visible organization of Jehovah on earth the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, and recognize the Society as the channel or instrument through which Jehovah and Christ Jesus give instruction and meat in due season to the household of faith."

The above is a very very very important quote that highlights the cultiness of the organization. Many JWs today try to give the impression that the organization refers to the worldwide brotherhood and the WTBTS is only an instrument of that brotherhood. But the above quoted resolution shows that in reality the term "the organization" really refers to WTBTS.

Last week's Watchtower study dealt with, among other things, the pitfal of distant parenting. "You can't hug your child over the internet", it was said. Now if Jehovah was Adam's father and Jehovah is an invisible, intangible spirit living in heaven, then wasn't Jehovah similarly a distant parent? Jehovah could not hug Adam or be there for him the way a human parent is supposed to. Could this have played a part in Adam not cultivating a close enough relationship with Jehovah to put obedience to him above pleasing his wife? If so, then isn't Jehovah, due to his distant parenting, responsible for Adam's poor choice?

When I decided to no longer turn in time...

being my 1st post i figured i should relate a personal experience.

a few months ago i decided to stop reporting time.

i'm mentally out of this cult now but still trapped because of family.

That was one of the most damning recordings of cult-like mentality from elders, that I've ever listened to! Their reasoning is so wrong and so blatantly cult-like, that listening to them makes me feel like I'm waking up to a whole new plane of being awake even though I've already been awake for about 2 years!

One of the best new anti-JW channels on YouTube. I think the fact that he never was a JW allows him to see things from a perspective that many ex-JWs can't. Growing up in the JW faith, there are some ills we tend to take for granted as being normal and acceptable and could easily miss as being an ill. But a non JW can spot those ills much easier.

I strongly believe that Watchtower has a product placement ad contract with a tablet manufacturer. Why else would they be doing so much to inadvertently encourage JWs to get tablets - and this just a few years after assembly parts warning about the dangers of being caught up with new technology?
